NAWAPON SET TO DEFEND HIS WBC ASIA TITLE IN BANGKOK

13 May 2019

Saturday the 18th of May sees the next installment of the monthly WP Boxing promotion in Bangkok, which takes place at the Workpoint Entertainment television studios.

The main event for the show features Thailand’s Nawapon Nakornluang (44-1-1) defending his WBC Asia bantamweight title against former World Boxing Council world champion, Filipino boxer, Sonny Boy Jaro (45-14-5).

The champion, Nawapon, will be making his third defense of his WBC Asia title that he first claimed back in July of last year against against Richard Claveras. Nawapon has looked very comfortable since making the transition up to bantamweight.

The Thai boxer formerly competed at super-flyweight and flyweight, having both success and agony at those weights, with the against coming via a 3rd round KO defeat to Mexico’s Juan Hernandez Navarrete, back in 2017, in a WBC world title contest in Bangkok.

The man who will square off against Nawapon is no stranger to global boxing glory, as Sonny Boy Jaro is a former World Boxing Council flyweight world champion, coincidently beating another Thai boxer for that coveted strap; the famed and storied Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

Sonny Boy will be stepping over the ropes for his 65th professional boxing contest, fresh off two impressive KO victories in his most recent forays into the squared circle.

On behalf of the entire team at the WBC Asian Boxing Council we wish both boxers the best of luck for their impending encounter.
