The year 2018 has been quite a defining one for the Asian Boxing Council with a total of seven-sixty championship contests sanctioned from our Bangkok head office, over the twelve-month period, from January 1st right through to December 31st.

The climatic title contest takes place in magical Macau, on New Year’s Eve, and what a fitting place to do so: in the gambling capital of Asia, as the WBC Asia took a gamble a couple a couple of years ago with a view to expand operations throughout Asia and Australasia and that punt is starting to bear fruit.

This year, either through title defenses or crowning new champions we sanctioned 28 coveted WBC Asia title contests: with 16 taking place in Thailand, 6 in China, 2 in Australia and one apiece in India, Russia, Azerbaijan and Germany.

The WBC Asia and WBC Continental titles are championship belts for aspiring boxers to showcase their boxing skills, over 8 or 10 rounds, these titles are viewed as stepping stones for growth as boxers dream of reaching the pinnacle of winning the coveted WBC Asia title. In 2018 the Asian Boxing Council sanctioned a total of 23 WBC Asia Continental titles and 15 WBC Asia Silver titles.

This year also witnessed a slow but steady reemergence of the WBC Asia youth championships to promote young up and coming teenage boxing prospects — we sanctioned a total of 4 of these title fights, with 2 taking place in China and one a piece in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Moreover, we crowned three WBC female champions and three WBC female Continental boxing champions, with the three WBC Asia titles taking place in China, the Philippines and Singapore, whilst the Continental title contests were staged in the Philippines (twice) and in Taiwan.

Whilst we celebrate the success we must also remember the passing of Italian boxer Christian Daghio who sadly passed away earlier this year.

On behalf of Asian Boxing Council President: Pol. General Kovid Bhakdibhumi, Secretary General: Patrick Cusick, Deputy Secretary General: Kevin P. Noone, Executive Secretary: Col. Damrong Simakajornbo, and the entire team at the WBC Asia we would like to sincerely thank all the boxers, their teams and the promoters through Asia, and Australasia for helping to continue grow and promote our boxing activities and we wish everyone a prosperous 2019, and beyond.
