ATCHARIYA DOMINATES TO RETAIN TITLE

22 Aug 2018

Monday, August 20th: Interim WBC Asia super-lightweight champion Atchariya AmnatGym made a successful first defense of his title on last Saturday’s WP Boxing promotion in Thailand.

He defeated Filipino boxer Joepher Montano via a unanimous points decision.

The fight itself was a very good 12-rounds for Atchariya as he looks to claim the WBC Asia super-lightweight crown outright before the end of the year — if a matchup with champion Darragh Foley can be made — he showcased very efficient fast hands in the opening stanza against his opponent from the Philippines.

For his part Montano came to fight, showed heart and grit, but it was to be a step too far as he was outgunned and outclassed by Atchariya, all three ringside judges agreed and scored the contest: 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93.

Atchariya improves his record to 11-0-0, whilst Montano drops to 9-3-2.

On behalf of WBC Asia President Pol. General Kovid Bhakdibhumi and all the team at the Asian Boxing Council we would like to congratulate Atchariya on his successful title defense.
